CATALOG:
Like many businesses, Foothills Cactus started
as a hobby almost 40 years ago.
Most desert areas are protected and you cannot
simply go out and dig up your own cacti.
Furthermore, although SMALL cacti that are grown
in nursery hothouses are readily available at low
cost, these are essentially decorative patio- and
small-space plants that are too small to be used for
any kind of serious landscaping. Furthermore,
hothouse grown plants are not as tolerant to weather extremes as plants grown
outdoors all their
lifetime. And, lastly, many cacti are slow growers.
It's just not realistic to think that homeowners are
willing to wait from 25 to 40 or more years for their
new drought tolerant lawn replacement to mature.
By starting as a hobby, we have personally
grown, and carefully tended over the years, many 25
to 40 year old cacti that we have decided to sell. Our
grower has an exceptional "green thumb" and our
cacti are "happy cacti."

golden barrel cacti
bloom with a spectacular crown of 2 inch
yellow flowers but only after reaching maturity -- 20 years
! We have mature golden barrels!
Echinopsis oxygona
bloom all Summer beginning in late
February. When 50 or more flowers bloom at once, you and your
neighborhood will be greeted with a gardenia-like perfume. Bees and your
fruit trees will love you!
